Obverse description The national coat of arms of Uganda occupies the central field, depicting a shield supported by a kob antelope and a crested crane, with a representation of the River Nile and Mount Elgon below and a sun rising above the shield. The motto scroll at the base bears the legend FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY. The issuer's name BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2006 divided to either side of the arms and the denomination 2000 SHILLINGS inscribed along the lower rim. Additional information

Michel Platini's appearance on Ugandan coinage has nothing to do with Uganda — this is a licensing product, one of dozens of football-themed issues sold through European coin dealers to collectors rather than circulated in Kampala. The Bank of Uganda lent its authority to the issue, but the commercial impetus came entirely from the souvenir market that exploded around the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

Platini won the Ballon d'Or three consecutive times, 1983 through 1985, and scored nine goals as France's captain at the 1984 European Championship on home soil.
