| Obverse description | The complete coat of arms of Uganda occupies the central field, featuring a shield decorated with a sun and traditional drum motif, supported by a rampant Uganda kob (antelope) to the left and a grey crowned crane to the right, set above a grassy mound with a scroll bearing the national motto. The surrounding legend reads BANK OF UGANDA at the top and 2000 SHILLINGS at the bottom, with the date 1996 divided to the right of the shield. The motto FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY appears on the ribbon scroll within the arms. The design is struck in proof quality with deeply mirrored fields contrasting the frosted relief of the arms. |

Issued under the Bank of Uganda's wildlife series program of the mid-1990s, this coin was produced during a period when Uganda was actively rebuilding international financial credibility following decades of economic devastation under Amin and Obote. Silver bullion issues of this type were targeted almost entirely at the collector export market — hard currency generation, not domestic circulation.
KM#48 is sometimes confused with contemporaneous issues in the same series due to overlapping subject matter and near-identical specifications. Worth confirming the reference against the die alignment before cataloging in bulk lots.
