Additional information

Uganda issued a substantial series of silver-plated sport celebrity coins in the mid-2000s, largely aimed at the European collector market rather than domestic circulation. Shevchenko was at or near his peak at the time of issue — he won the Ballon d'Or in 2004 and moved from AC Milan to Chelsea in 2006 for £30 million, then a record fee for a Ukrainian player. The coin's existence has everything to do with licensing opportunity and nothing to do with Uganda.
