Issued as part of Uganda's early-2000s wave of commemorative sports issues, this piece honors Andreas Brehme, the German left-back whose extra-time penalty in the 1990 World Cup Final against Argentina remains the only goal of that match. Brehme is an unusual honoree for a Ugandan issue — the country had no direct connection to him — but silver-plated copper-nickel commemoratives of this type were produced primarily for the collector export market, not domestic circulation.
