Obverse description The national coat of arms of Tanzania occupies the central field, depicting a shield supported by a man and a woman, with crossed axes and a spear behind the shield, and a ribbon inscribed UHURU NA UMOJA at the base. Two diagonal flag-like elements flank the supporters in the background. The denomination legend 2000 SHILLINGI arcs along the upper rim, while the country name TANZANIA appears at the bottom, flanked on either side by the commemorative legend 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE 1961-1996 running along the lower arc.
