| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Luís I facing left, with naturalistically rendered hair, occupying the central field. The portrait is engraved in a restrained neoclassical style, with the king's truncation cut sharply at the lower field. The encircling Latin legend reads LUDOVICUS · I · PORTUG : ET · ALGARB : REX, identifying him as King of Portugal and the Algarves. The date appears in the lower exergual area, separated by two pellets. The coin border is composed of a continuous beaded rim. |

| Reverse description | The crowned royal arms of Portugal are displayed centrally, featuring the traditional quartered shield with the quinas and the bordure of castles, surmounted by an ornate royal crown with a cross at its apex. Flanking the shield on either side are two symmetrical olive or laurel branches rising from the lower field, their stems tied together at the base with a decorative ribbon bow. The denomination legend 2000 REIS is inscribed along the lower periphery of the field beneath the tied branches. The entire design is framed by a beaded border. |
