Additional information

João V's reign saw Brazil transformed into Portugal's primary source of gold revenue, with the Rio de Janeiro mint established specifically to process Minas Gerais output closer to the source. The 1723–1726 window for this type corresponds to a period of intense royal pressure on Brazilian mint officials to maximize production — João was simultaneously funding the construction of the Mato da Burra aqueduct and the Mafra Palace complex, both staggeringly expensive projects financed almost entirely on colonial gold.

The Bentes reference numbers 130.01 through 130.04 distinguish four date varieties within this short run, with 1724 generally considered the most available today.
