Obverse description At left-center, an intaglio portrait of Justo Sierra — Mexican educator and statesman — is inscribed with his name below in small capitals. To the right, a vignette of the Central Library of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) renders the building's iconic mosaic-covered facade with precision. Guilloche underprint patterns in green and brown fill the surrounding fields, with the denomination numeral '2000' in large figures at upper left and lower right, and the issuer legend 'EL BANCO DE MEXICO' at upper right.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by an intaglio vignette of a 19th-century colonial university courtyard, its grand arched arcade framing a central equestrian statue set within a cobblestone plaza. Radiating guilloche patterns and geometric underprint designs in olive-green and gold fill the surrounding fields, with a circular Banco de Mexico seal at upper left. The caption 'UNIVERSIDAD SIGLO XIX' appears at lower left, and the denomination 'DOS MIL PESOS' runs along the bottom edge.
