Obverse description Facing left truncated effigy of King Juan Carlos I, depicted in civilian dress with a suit and tie, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. Two stylised scallop shell ornaments flank the base of the portrait at lower left and right, serving as decorative dividers. The circumferential legend reads JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA, arranged along the upper arc, with the date 1999 inscribed in the lower field beneath the bust.
