Reverse description The reverse depicts a sculptural group of Don Quijote mounted on Rocinante and Sancho Panza astride his donkey Rucio, derived from the celebrated monument to Cervantes in the Plaza de España, Madrid, engraved by Luis José Díaz Salas. A cameo portrait of Miguel de Cervantes appears within the composition. The denomination '2000 PTAS' is inscribed at the top of the field, flanked by the dates '1547' and '1997' at the bottom, commemorating the 450th anniversary of Cervantes's birth. A security feature in the form of a watermark motif printed on a stylised book is incorporated into the design.
