Additional information

This issue belongs to Spain's long-running commemorative peseta program of the 1990s, which the Casa de la Moneda used aggressively in the final years before euro adoption to generate collector revenue. The 2000-peseta denomination was a creature of that program — never intended for circulation, priced well above face value from the day of issue.

Isabel II ruled from 1833 to 1868, when the Glorious Revolution forced her into Parisian exile. She abdicated formally in 1870 in favor of her son, the future Alfonso XII, having never returned to Spain.
