| Obverse lettering | JUAN CARLOS I ESPAÑA M 2000 PTAS (Translation: JUAN CARLOS I SPAIN M 2000 PESETAS) |
| Reverse description | The reverse features a finely detailed bust of Emperor Charles V (Carlos I of Spain) rendered in high relief after a Renaissance portrait convention, depicting the emperor facing slightly to the left, bearded, and dressed in elaborately engraved armour with an imperial collar. The dates 1500 and 2000, flanking the bust at either side, commemorate the five-hundredth anniversary of his birth. The circular legend CAROLVS IMPERATOR runs around the periphery, divided by small decorative rosettes, all within a beaded border. |
