| Obverse description | The Zambian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield supported by a man to the left and a woman to the right, with a fish eagle perched atop crossed implements above the shield. A scroll at the base bears the motto ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION. The date 1997 is divided across the field flanking the supporters, with 19 to the left and 97 to the right.
