The 2016–2021 dating covers a run of issues during which Malawi's Reserve Bank was managing severe kwacha depreciation — the currency had lost roughly 90% of its value against the dollar in the preceding decade, driven by tobacco revenue shortfalls and chronic import imbalances. A 2,000 kwacha denomination that would have been inconceivable in the 1990s had become routine retail currency by the mid-2010s.

The print date of 30 April 1945 recorded in this catalog entry is almost certainly a data error.
