| Reverse description | At centre, an inset circular jade bi disc occupies the middle field, bearing gold-coloured Chinese characters reading 鼠年財運旺 (meaning 'May the Year of the Rat bring great prosperity') arranged around its perimeter. Within the aperture of the bi disc, a gold-plated effigy of a rat rears on its hind legs facing left. At the upper field, the Chinese cyclical year characters 庚子 appear in gold against a dark background. Surrounding the jade disc, multiple rats in varying poses are depicted in high relief among rocky outcrops and flowering plants, filling the entire border area. The legend THE YEAR OF THE RAT curves along the lower portion of the jade disc, and the date 2020 appears in gold numerals at the very base of the coin. |

| Additional information |
The Lao PDR has issued lunar series coinage with some regularity since the 1990s, typically targeting the collector export market rather than domestic circulation — virtually none of these pieces ever passed through Lao hands as currency. The 2020 Year of the Rat holds mild calendrical significance as the first year of a new 60-year sexagenary cycle, a conjunction of the rat sign with the yang metal element that recurs only once every six decades.
