Reverse description The reverse presents a dramatic frontal portrait of a Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris) emerging from dense tropical foliage, its jaws open in a display of warning, revealing its teeth. One foreleg is extended with a paw resting in a shallow puddle, while large tropical leaves frame the composition on either side. The scientific name PANTHERA TIGRIS is inscribed along the upper legend, with the purity and weight 1 OZ FINE GOLD .999 positioned in the lower field. Additional information

Laos has no wild tiger population to speak of — the last confirmed sightings of Indochinese tigers within its borders date to the early 2000s, with the subspecies effectively extinct there by the time this coin was issued. The piece belongs to a wave of Lao gold and silver wildlife issues produced almost entirely for the international collector market, with no meaningful domestic circulation.

The Bank of the Lao PDR has licensed numerous such issues through European minting and distribution intermediaries, particularly based in Germany and Austria.
