Obverse description The obverse features the national coat of arms of the Republic of the Congo at center, displaying a shield supported by two African elephants in high relief against a hatched field. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin characters, while the denomination 2000 FRANCS CFA is inscribed along the lower periphery. The coat of arms is rendered with fine detail, including the motto ribbon and decorative crenellated crown above the shield. The overall design is struck in antique finish, lending the surfaces a rich, aged appearance.

Additional information

The Republic of the Congo — not to be confused with the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo — has issued a steady stream of large-format silver pieces aimed squarely at the collector market since the 2000s, with essentially no expectation of domestic circulation. The CFA franc itself is managed by the BEAC, the regional central bank serving six Central African states, meaning Brazzaville has limited unilateral authority over monetary policy. These oversized issues effectively operate outside that system entirely.

KM#183 is part of a broader African wildlife series produced by outside minting contractors for the collector trade.
