| Reverse description | The reverse depicts the martyrdom of Saint Peter rendered in bold high relief, with the saint shown crucified upside-down upon a Petrine cross, his muscular figure sculpted in dynamic detail with arms outstretched along the horizontal beam. The cross is set against an elaborate Baroque cartouche composed of scrolling acanthus leaves, shell motifs, and foliate ornaments that form the lower body of the key-shaped flan. The legend ST. PETER is inscribed within a curved ribbon across the lower central field of the cartouche. The upper portion of the reverse continues the key bow, adorned with swirling cloud and figural relief elements, completing the overall composition of the key form. The antique gold-plated finish enhances the sculptural depth of the martyr scene and surrounding decorative elements. |
