Obverse description Highly sculptural antique-finished silver piece struck in the form of a broken sword or dagger shard, with the grip and crossguard at left and a tapering blade extending to the right. The guard area is enveloped by the tentacles of a Kraken rendered in high relief, its coiling appendages wrapping dynamically around the hilt and blade. A red thread is interwoven across the entire length of the piece, adding a three-dimensional mixed-media element. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN · 2 oz Ag 999 · 2000 FRANCS CFA · 2025 appears incuse along the flat of the blade toward the right side.

Reverse description The reverse presents the opposing face of the sculptural sword shard, displaying the textured grip wrapping and the Kraken's tentacles clinging to the crossguard and blade in bold high relief. The blade surface is rendered with fine detail suggesting age, wear, and mythological narrative, while the red thread continues its crossing pattern across the full length of the piece, reinforcing the three-dimensional sculptural character of this numismatic artwork.

Additional information

Cameroon has issued novelty bullion under the BEAC framework before, but the "Kraken shard" format — an irregularly shaped silver piece engineered to interlock with companion coins in a series — is a product of the European private mint trade, almost certainly struck by a contracted house rather than the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale. The legal tender face value is nominal fiction; no 2000 FCFA coin circulates in Cameroon at any weight approaching this.

The textile thread inclusion is a minting gimmick that became fashionable among novelty silver issues around 2020, borrowed from polymer banknote technology.
