Reverse description The reverse depicts Guan Yin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, rendered in high relief with selective gold gilding highlighting her figure and attributes. She is shown in traditional iconographic form, holding a vase of pure water symbolizing spiritual purification and mercy. The finely detailed design draws on classical East Asian Buddhist artistic tradition, with elaborate drapery and a serene, benevolent expression conveying her role as a compassionate protector. The background field incorporates decorative elements consistent with Buddhist devotional imagery.

Additional information

Gabon has issued commemorative silver under the CFA franc framework since the 1990s, but the program accelerated sharply in the 2010s as the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale increasingly licensed designs to European minting houses — primarily in Poland and the Czech Republic — targeting the Asian collector market. Guan Yin issues in particular are produced almost entirely for export to China, Hong Kong, and the diaspora market, with negligible circulation or collector interest within Gabon itself.

The CFA issuing authority functions here essentially as a licensing body.
