Togo's CFA franc issues of this period were struck under license through the Monnaie de Paris as part of a broader wave of small-gold collector pieces sold primarily to European and Asian numismatic markets rather than circulated domestically. The country itself has used the West African CFA franc — pegged first to the French franc and since 1999 to the euro — with no meaningful domestic gold coinage tradition.
