Obverse description The obverse is printed in shades of violet, blue, and gold, with a central vignette of a telecommunications tower and satellite dish set against a mountainous landscape. To the left, a traditional Rwandan basket and a gold hexagonal optically variable device (OVD) are positioned within a decorative guilloche border column, alongside two serial numbers in blue. Two facsimile signatures appear above the date 01.12.2014, with the denomination numeral '2000' rendered in large blue figures at the upper right within a fine-line rosette underprint.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large central vignette of coffee beans rendered in silvery tones against a purple underprint, symbolising Rwanda's principal agricultural export. To the left, a finely engraved latticework security panel in white and grey provides a strong anti-counterfeiting element, while the denomination numeral '2000' appears in blue guilloche rosettes at the upper left and lower right corners. The issuer's name and legal tender inscriptions are printed in dark blue across the upper and lower margins.

Comments

The 2014 series marked a significant redesign for Rwandan currency, issued two decades after the genocide that effectively destroyed the previous monetary system — the National Bank itself had to be reconstituted from near-collapse in 1994. Crane Currency, the Massachusetts-based security printer, produced this series, though the "Printed: 30.04.1945" date in the catalog data is clearly erroneous and likely a database artefact.

For a note of this denomination, the security specification is notably thin — watermark alone without a security thread is unusual for a high-value issue from this period, and worth scrutiny on any example presented for authentication.
