Additional information

Hungary has a legitimate claim to outsized Olympic pride: the country ranks among the highest in gold medals per capita in Games history, a record built largely through fencing, water polo, and wrestling dominance across the twentieth century. This 2016 issue commemorates the Rio Games, where Hungary took 15 medals total — its strongest performance in decades.

Copper-nickel commemoratives of this type were struck for general circulation and gifted distribution rather than collector sales alone, meaning circulated survivors are genuinely common and uncirculated examples require no premium justification.
