Additional information

The "Jeździec piastowski" — the Piast horseman — draws on medieval Polish iconography rooted in the Piast dynasty, which ruled Poland from the 10th century until the extinction of the royal line in 1370 with the death of Casimir III. The 2006 gold issue belongs to NBP's long-running series commemorating Polish historical motifs, a program that accelerated markedly after EU accession in 2004 as Poland moved to assert cultural identity through numismatic output.

Mintage on these NBP gold commemoratives is typically held to a few thousand pieces, keeping secondary market supply genuinely constrained.
