| Obverse description | The obverse features two architectural landmarks within a divided circular vignette: at left, a traditional Chinese pavilion with characteristic upswept tiled roof, and at right, a grand Thai-style building with ornate European-influenced facade, symbolising Sino-Thai cultural ties. Decorative foliate scroll ornaments appear above the central dividing element between the two structures. The Chinese national inscription 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) is arranged in a curved legend along the upper portion of the field. The date 1997 appears in the lower exergue below the architectural vignette. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays a large, finely detailed depiction of the Great Buddha of Lingshan (or a comparable monumental standing Buddha figure) occupying the central field, rendered in high relief against a naturalistic rocky landscape background. An inset oval cartouche at the upper left contains a seated Thai Buddha image in traditional iconographic style, providing a complementary Thai religious motif. A bilingual inscription appears in the left field, reading 中泰友好 in Chinese characters and 'Sino-Thailand Friendship' in Latin script below. The denomination 200元 is inscribed in the lower left field. |
