The 200 Somoni occupies the top of Tajikistan's standard paper currency range — the Somoni itself was introduced in October 2000, replacing the Tajik ruble at a rate of 1:1000 after years of hyperinflation tied to the civil war that ground on through most of the 1990s. P#21B is a later signature variety of the 200 Somoni series, reflecting routine changes in the National Bank's senior signing authority rather than any monetary policy shift.
