Obverse description Portrait of Kenya's first President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, in three-quarter right-facing bust, positioned at left centre against a guilloche underprint. The national arms appear at upper centre, flanked by the denomination numeral and bilingual legends in Swahili and English. A commemorative inscription marking forty years of independence from 1963 to 2003 is incorporated into the design.

Reverse description A central intaglio-printed vignette portrays three cotton pickers at work in a field, rendered in fine line engraving with a rolling hill landscape and distant lake visible in the background. The denomination numeral 200 appears in each corner with guilloche underprint elements framing the composition. At upper right, the date inscription and commemorative legend are accompanied by the national arms and a gold-toned security device.
