| Obverse description | The Somali national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a heraldic shield charged with a five-pointed star above a horizontal line, supported on either side by a spotted leopard rampant. Below the shield, crossed spears and a palm frond are displayed on a ribbon. The circular legend at the top reads in Italian and Arabic bilingual script. Flanking the lower field are the dates 1960 and 1970, commemorating the tenth anniversary of independence, with the inscription X ANNIVERSARIO INDIPENDENZA arcing along the lower border, also rendered bilingually in Italian and Arabic. |
