| Reverse description | A close-up portrait of an adult African elephant (Loxodonta africana) dominates the central field, depicted in high relief facing slightly left with finely detailed skin texture, large ears, and prominent tusks. A suggestion of savanna landscape and acacia foliage appears in the upper background. The curved legend AFRICAN WILDLIFE arcs along the upper border, with ELEPHANT inscribed along the lower left arc. The fineness and weight designation 1/4oz Au 999.9 appears at the lower right, all within a beaded inner border. |

| Additional information |
Somalia's elephant coin series occupies an unusual position in the bullion market: despite being issued under Somali authority, the coins have been produced in Germany by the Bavarian State Mint (Bayerische Hauptmünzamt) for the entire run of the series. The arrangement reflects Somalia's lack of functioning mint infrastructure rather than any numismatic partnership in the conventional sense. The 2021 issue continues the annual design rotation that has made the series a minor collecting phenomenon in European bullion circles, where date runs are actively assembled.
