Obverse description The Somali national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield adorned with horizontal stripes and a central five-pointed star, supported by two leopards rampant on either side, with a ribbon and crossed spears and palm branches below. The year of issue is split to either side of the arms, reading '20' to the left and '20' to the right. The legend 'SOMALI REPUBLIC' arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters, while the denomination '200 SHILLINGS' is inscribed along the lower periphery. A beaded border frames the entire design.

Additional information

Somalia's elephant coin series has no connection to the Somali state in any functional sense — the coins are produced and distributed entirely by the German private mint Geiger Edelmetalle under a licensing arrangement, making them bullion products marketed to European collectors rather than anything approaching a circulating or government-administered issue. The "Somalia" designation is essentially a mint mark of convenience.

The 2020 edition marks a design revision year in the series, which updates its reverse periodically to sustain collector demand — a deliberate sales strategy borrowed from the South African Krugerrand anniversary releases.
