The High Command of the Armed Forces of South Russia — under Denikin's White Army — issued a range of emergency currency during 1919 as the Volunteer Army pushed north toward Moscow. These notes circulated alongside a chaotic mix of Tsarist holdovers, Provisional Government issues, Bolshevik sovznaks, and locally printed scrip, all trading at wildly varying rates depending on which front controlled a given town that week.
The watermark is worth noting: its presence suggests access to pre-revolutionary banknote stock or purpose-made security paper, which the White administrations occasionally managed through connections with Southern Russian commercial printers. Denikin's forces collapsed by early 1920, and much of this currency was rendered worthless within months of issue.
