| Reverse description | A facing bust portrait of Irineu Evangelista de Souza, Baron and Viscount of Mauá (1813–1889), the celebrated Brazilian industrialist, banker, and entrepreneur, is rendered in high relief at the center of the field. The portrait is presented in a formal, slightly three-quarter style consistent with medallic portraiture of the era. The legend MAUÁ appears prominently, divided across the field flanking the effigy, with the engraver's initials CL present in the lower field. The design pays tribute to Mauá's pivotal role in Brazilian industrial and economic development during the nineteenth century. |
