| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of Queen Maria II facing left, her hair elaborately dressed in curls and waves drawn back to a chignon adorned with a braided band, rendered in fine neoclassical style. The queen's neck and truncation are plainly cut, with no drapery indicated. The circular legend reads MARIA·II·PORTUG:ET·ALGARG:REGINA, disposed around the periphery, with the date centered in the lower exergue flanked by raised dots. The entire design is contained within a finely beaded inner border. |
