Obverse description Conjoined busts of King Carlos I, in military uniform adorned with epaulettes and decorations, and Queen Amélia, her hair dressed and pinned, both facing left in profile. The king's effigy is placed in the foreground, partially overlapping the queen's. The surrounding legend reads CARLOS I REI E AMELIA RAINHA DE PORTUGAL, separated from the beaded border by a dotted inner circle. The engraver's signature V.
