Additional information

South Africa's 1994 elections — the first held under universal suffrage — brought the ANC to power after decades of apartheid legislation that had systematically excluded the Black majority from political participation. The 2014 commemorative marks exactly twenty years from that transition. Fine gold issues from the South African Mint in this period consistently achieve strong fineness at .9999, a standard the mint adopted aggressively to compete with the Krugerrand's long dominance in the bullion market.
