Obverse description Uncrowned right-facing effigy of King Charles III occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine naturalistic detail after the portrait by Martin Jennings. The king is depicted with short hair and without adornment, in a contemporary and understated style befitting the first coinage portrait of his reign. The surrounding legend reads CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 200 POUNDS · 2023, separated by raised dots and arranged along the coin's periphery. The engraver's initials MJ appear discreetly in the lower right field. The mirror-polished proof fields provide strong contrast against the frosted relief of the portrait.
