Obverse description The obverse features the royal cypher of King Juan Carlos I — an interlaced crowned monogram of the letters 'J' and 'C' — centrally placed within the field against a dark polished background. A royal crown surmounts the monogram, with the mint mark 'M' (Madrid) and an additional symbol flanking it on either side. The circular legend reads 'JVAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA' arranged around the upper periphery, with the date '1989' displayed along the lower portion, all separated by decorative dots. The design is framed by a beaded border. The overall style is that of a proof-finish commemorative issue with high relief details.
