| Obverse description | Central figure of a robed personification or scholar viewed from the front, with a celestial armillary sphere superimposed over the head, evoking ancient astronomical study. Surrounding the central motif are various celestial symbols including stars, a crescent moon, a ringed planet, and two small tablets bearing the word LIBERTA. A flame torch rises from the lower centre of the design. The peripheral legend REPUBBLICA DI in the upper arc and SAN MARINO in the lower arc frames the composition in Latin characters. Designer's signatures appear in small text in the lower field. |

| Reverse description | Central depiction of a stylised solar disc with radiating lines suggesting sunrays, surrounded by a schematic constellation map with spheres connected by lines representing stars and their celestial relationships, referencing ancient astronomical charting. In the lower portion, a stone megalithic structure — reminiscent of a prehistoric astronomical observatory such as Stonehenge — is rendered in low relief beneath the solar motif. The denomination L. 200 appears prominently in the right field, with the date 1999 inscribed in the upper right. The engraver's name K. ABDEL KALIK is inscribed in the lower left field, and the Rome Mint mark R appears to the right of the denomination. |
