| Obverse description | At centre-left, an intaglio portrait vignette of Ștefan cel Mare faces right, accompanied above by the inscription ȘTEFAN CEL MARE and flanked by a multicoloured national ornamental underprint with three vertical decorative elements and a central guilloche rosette. Moldova's 200 Lei denomination has been issued in several iterations since the leu was reintroduced in 1993 following the collapse of the Soviet monetary system. This 2015 edition, printed by the Banque de France's subsidiary printing works, continues a long-standing arrangement between Banca Națională a Moldovei and French security printers that covers much of the current leu series.
The watermark remains the primary listed security feature for this type — notably sparse for a mid-denomination note issued in the mid-2010s, when most European central banks had moved toward polymer or multi-feature paper substrates.
