Reverse description A large, boldly modelled facing portrait of the Czech composer Leoš Janáček dominates the entire reverse field, rendered in a naturalistic and expressive style characteristic of contemporary Czech medallic art. The subject is depicted in old age, with characteristic dishevelled hair, prominent brow, and a full moustache, conveying both authority and artistic temperament. The birth and commemorative years 1854 – 2004 are inscribed along the left rim, while the name LEOŠ JANÁČEK curves along the right periphery. The portrait is the work of engraver Jiří Věneček and fills the flan with striking sculptural depth.
