Reverse description The reverse bears a finely modelled portrait bust of František Josef Gerstner (1756–1832), the Bohemian mathematician and engineer who founded the Prague Polytechnic Institute. His effigy is depicted facing slightly to the left, rendered in naturalistic high relief with careful attention to period costume including a high collar and cravat. The legend 'F.J. GERSTNER' is inscribed in the lower field beneath the portrait. The dates '1756–2006' are arranged vertically along the right rim, marking the 250th anniversary of his birth. A small engraver's or mint mark is present in the lower left field.
