Dubček died in November 1992, just weeks before the Czechoslovak federation he had once led formally dissolved — meaning this coin commemorates a figure who never lived to see the independent Slovak state whose central bank issued it. The 2001 date places this among the earliest NBS gold pattern issues, produced as Slovakia was still building its numismatic program ahead of EU accession negotiations.
