Ukraine has printed its own banknotes at the Kyiv facility since 1994, one of the earlier post-Soviet states to establish fully domestic production. This 200 hryvnia belongs to the redesigned series introduced progressively from 2019, part of a broader modernization of the security feature package following concerns that earlier issues had become vulnerable to counterfeiting — a problem that had generated significant law enforcement attention in the preceding decade.
The color-shifting ink on this denomination was a deliberate upgrade, absent from earlier 200 hryvnia issues.
