Obverse description Central field features a finely detailed high-relief figure of Le Marron Inconnu (the Unknown Maroon), depicted kneeling on one knee in a dynamic pose with his right arm raised, blowing a conch shell to call enslaved people to revolt. The heroic figure is set against a background of stylized palm trees rendered in lower relief, evoking the tropical landscape of colonial Saint-Domingue. The legend REPUBLIQUE D'HAITI arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin capitals, while the inscription LE MARRON INCONNU DE ST. DOMINGUE curves along the lower field. The entire design is contained within a beaded inner border, characteristic of the Franklin Mint's proof coinage of this era.
