Obverse description Two facing busts in high relief occupy the central field: at left, Emperor Henry IV crowned with an imperial diadem, and at right, Patriarch Sigeardo of Aquileia wearing a mitre and holding an open book, depicting the historic granting of sovereignty over Friuli in 1077. Small heraldic eagle devices flank the composition on either side. The dual dates 1077 and 1977 appear in the upper field separated by a central dot, commemorating the 900th anniversary of the event. The Friulian-language legend NASCITE DE PATRIE DAL FRIȖL curves along the lower periphery in incuse lettering.
