Additional information

This was the final year of Mohammed V's coinage under the French Protectorate — within three years he would be deposed, exiled to Madagascar, and then restored to the throne as Morocco moved toward full independence in 1956. The French Residency controlled all monetary policy, making these issues instruments of colonial administration rather than expressions of Moroccan sovereignty in any practical sense.

The .720 silver standard was a deliberate reduction from earlier Sherifian issues, reflecting postwar metal economics across French overseas monetary systems.
