| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Benin occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield supported by two leopards rampant, with a sailing ship in the chief. Beneath the shield, a scroll banner carries the national motto in the exergue. The circular legend 'REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN' runs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '200 FRANCS CFA' appears in the lower field below the arms. |

Benin's 1990s commemorative program produced a string of issues with no particular connection to the issuing nation — this piece honoring an Austro-Hungarian naval aircraft is a clear example. The Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 was a monoplane floatplane developed in 1918 specifically to counter Allied flying boats over the North Sea, designed by Ernst Heinkel before his more notorious career in the following decades.
Benin had no mint of its own; these were struck under contract in Europe for a collector market, not circulation.
