Additional information

Benin's 1990s commemorative program produced a string of issues with no particular connection to the issuing nation — this piece honoring an Austro-Hungarian naval aircraft is a clear example. The Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 was a monoplane floatplane developed in 1918 specifically to counter Allied flying boats over the North Sea, designed by Ernst Heinkel before his more notorious career in the following decades.

Benin had no mint of its own; these were struck under contract in Europe for a collector market, not circulation.
