Toldi refers to the epic poem cycle by János Arany, published in three parts between 1847 and 1879, following the exploits of the folk hero Miklós Toldi — a peasant of legendary strength navigating the court of King Lajos I. Arany's Toldi trilogy is considered the pinnacle of nineteenth-century Hungarian narrative poetry, and the 1847 first installment was famously completed in just a few weeks after a competition announcement by the poet Mihály Vörösmarty.
