This piece was issued to mark the 150th anniversary of the publication of János vitéz, the narrative poem by Sándor Petőfi that became a cornerstone of Hungarian national literature. Petőfi wrote it in 1844 in just over a month, reportedly finishing the manuscript in a single sustained burst of composition. The poem's peasant hero, Kukoricza Jancsi, tapped a vein of romantic nationalism that resonated far beyond Hungary's borders and remains compulsory reading in Hungarian schools to this day.
