Issued to mark the formal handover of the Olympic flag from Tokyo to Paris at the close of the delayed 2020 Games — themselves postponed a full year by the COVID-19 pandemic, making this the first Summer Olympics held in an odd-numbered year. The Monnaie de Paris produced several denominations around this event, with the 200 Euro gold piece occupying the top tier of a tiered collector series leading up to the Paris 2024 Games.
